UNIVERSITY OF GUAM ENDOWMENT FOUNDATION

The University of Guam and the University of Guam Endowment Foundation, Inc., is pleased to announce that the children of the late Felix Martinez Camacho and Antonia Garcia Camacho awarded a generous financial gift to University of Guam Endowment Foundation.

A formal ceremony was scheduled Wednesday, December 12, 2007 10:00AM at the Jesus & Eugenia School of Business and Public Administration Building, room 262.

Felix Martinez Camacho was born to Ignacio Lujan Camacho and Maria Concepcion Martinez Camacho on May 18, 1893 in Agana, Guam. After graduating from San Juan de Letran School in 1912, he married Antonia Cruz Garcia. Surviving children were Josefina Camacho Tanaka, Juan Garcia Camacho, Gov. Carlos Garcia Camacho (father of Gov. Felix P. Camacho), Dr. Luis Garcia Camacho and Eduardo Garcia Camacho. From 1917 through 1930, Camacho was appointed to the First Guam Congress and was later elected into office until the advisory body dissolved. In the early 1950’s, he began his real estate ventures, which included property sales and rentals. He also donated properties, one of which later became the first Chief Brodie Memorial School. For devoted service to his church, Pope Pius XII awarded Camacho with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal in 1954. In the same year, he co-founded Guam Savings and Loan and Marianas Finance Institutions. In 1973, he entered into partnership with Servo Pacific, a Honolulu firm, to develop the Guam Shopping Center (Gibson’s) in Tamuning. After a long illness, Camacho died at the age of 82 on July 31, 1975.
